That "leaving the band to spend more time with family" is always such a crock! I knew something had to be up. Who leaves a band right when they are getting HUGE!! Thanks for posting this!! (have I mentioned how much I hate change?)

I'm not sure it was completely a crock. I think he can spend more time with his family as a member of Angels and Airwaves, because they're touring schedule is nowhere near as rigorous as 30's is. Plus, did we TRULY expect him to totally quit playing? He's a musician, it's in his blood. He's gotta be in a band, just one that will allow him to be home more often. But I would have liked a better explanation from the band when he first left instead of just simply saying he had left the band for family. They should have said something like, "Matt has left the band to spend more time with his family, but he may be joining a new band..." or whatever. Eh, either way, good luck Matt!

Laura - I found this out this morning too. And you're right. A better explanation of why he was leaving would have been nice. I love Matt. He was always my fav, but when I first heard that he was filling in for AVA on tour my first thought was 'if you're gonna be touring why didn't you stay with 30 secs?' I sort of feel betrayed, lied to. I love AVA, actually and they happen to be my fav band right now. So it's pretty cool that he's in it now. I don't know, I always thought that 30 secs looked pretty happy together and now to find out there might be more to him leaving leaves me wondering. Maybe it is just the touring schedule. Well then they should have just said that, damn it! I'm hoping 30 secs will address this on their website. I'd like to know their reaction. Anyways, I still love Matt. I just don't like being lied to. Let us all know if you hear anything else. Thanks for the post.

It's sort of betrayal, yeah. But then again, if you look at it objectively, it's not really any of our business. Matt made a decision that he must have thought was best for him. But we will miss him in the 30 Seconds to Mars family. I'm hoping it was just the touring schedule and something didn't happen. There are a lot of people pointing the finger at Jared for this, like he drove Matt away, but I'm finding that one hard to believe. Anyway, I don't think 30 will address this, even though it would be nice if they did. And yes, if I find something else out, I will let you all know. =]

I miss him and kind of wish he'd have stayed with 30stm...but if this is what makes him happy then so be it. He's a great musician so I suppose I'm happy he's at least still playing in some band somewhere. But...I really did think he was going to be all 'Family Man' status...not 'Go to new band' guy.

sorry, i just remembered this...when i was at next big thing 6. Angels & Airwaves went on before 30 Seconds to Mars, and I'm not sure if it was the bassist or the guitarist, but one of them was wearing a 30 Seconds to Mars shirt. I just thought i would share that with you, i thought it was quite ironic.
